Roy Stewart Moore (born February 11, 1947) is an American politician, lawyer, and jurist who served as chief justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama from 2001 to 2003 and again from 2013 to 2017, each time being removed from office for judicial misconduct by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary.

Roy Stewart Moore was born on February 11, 1947, in Gadsden, Alabama, United States to construction worker Roy Baxter Moore and his wife Evelyn Stewart. He was the eldest of five children of his parents and grew up with two brothers and two sisters.
Moore was born in Gadsden, the seat of Etowah County, to Roy Baxter Moore (died 1967) and the former Evelyn Stewart. The couple had met and married after his discharge from the United States Army during World War II. Roy was the oldest of five children, three boys and two girls, born to the couple.
