"The Masseuse", originally aired November 18, 1993, was the ninth episode of the fifth season of Seinfeld, and the 73rd episode overall. It was written by Peter Mehlman and was directed by Tom Cherones.

Elaine dates a man who shares the name of real-life serial killer Joel Rifkin (Anthony Cistaro) and tries to convince him to change his name. Jerry's girlfriend, Jodi (Jennifer Coolidge) who is a masseuse, seems unwilling to give Jerry a massage, even as she takes Kramer as a client. Meanwhile, she is not fond of George, leading him incessantly to wonder why, even to his neglect of his own girlfriend Karen (Lisa Edelstein).

Eventually, Jerry goes insane and angrily tries to force his girlfriend to give him the massage. She leaves, encountering George on the way out the apartment door, who professes his growing fondness for her. Elaine and Joel fight over selecting a new name. Kramer's back is sore after attending a football game and leaping over rows of seats to catch a thrown ball. George and Karen split.

•Elaine suggests that her boyfriend change his name from Joel Rifkin to "O.J." Rifkin (presumably after O.J. Simpson) to avoid being confused with Joel Rifkin, the famous serial killer. Seven months later, O.J. Simpson was accused of murder.

•In the beginning of the episode, Jerry claims in a phone conversation with Elaine that he hasn't vomited since June 29, 1980. However, in Season Three's “The Dog”, Elaine alludes to having seen Jerry throw up, despite having only known him since 1986. A possible explanation for this seeming inconsistency comes in "The Masseuse" when George alludes to Jerry having thrown up in 1987, with Jerry rebutting that said incident was merely "the dry heaves."

•During the scene in which Elaine's boyfriend is summoned over the Giants Stadium intercom to validate Kramer's identity, a passing view of New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor is seen.

•Newman is mentioned in this episode, despite not appearing.
