An automatic mixer controls a group of live microphones, turning up mikes where someone is talking, and turning down mikes that aren't being used. This is a real-time voice-activated process, completely different from studio automation that only plays back pre-recorded moves.
Oct 14, 2020 · Dan Dugan, the inventor of the automatic microphone mixer, will be awarded an Emmy at the upcoming 72nd Engineering Emmy Awards. His award, for “Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development,” honors his invention of gain sharing automixing technology and will be presented in a live-streamed ceremony on Thursday, October 29.
