Late Afternoon is the lustful, prideful precursor of Wuthering Heights, Stronger Than Love, and Desired. Running barely 70 minutes, it is the shortest Mexican Golden Age film I've seen by a wide margin but, fully invested in grand gestures and the melodrama of absolutes, it packs a surprising emotional punch.
