Tivadar was an Esperantist writer and taught Soros to speak Esperanto in his childhood. In 1936 Soros's family changed their name from Schwartz to Soros, in response to growing antisemitism with the rise of fascism. Tivadar liked the new name because it is a palindrome and because of its meaning.
