Review by Henrik Boman. Pierre Boulez as a modern composer conducts Wagner, and makes great music. When I first heard this recording I was disappointed: the sound is a little weak, the stage machinery makes a lot of noise, and some of singers were terrible.

Pierre Boulez. Production Date: 07/18/1980. What remains uncertain in Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen is whether the figure of Siegfried actually symbolises hope for world salvation through fearlessness and heroism, or whether his brutality and amorality are central components of doom.

Oct 30, 2001 · Though raised by the dwarf Mime, Siegfried discovers his true identity and forges the magic sword, Notung, with which he slays Mime and the dragon Fafner. He then defies the Wanderer (Wotan in disguise) and rescues the sleeping Brünnhilde from her circle of flames. The opera ends with their radiant love duet.

Festival director Wolfgang Wagner selected the composer Pierre Boulez as the conductor for the centenary celebration of Wagner's most complex work, which had been first performed at the first Bayreuth festival. The conductor's first choice for a stage director was Ingmar Bergman.
