Cao Yu (Chinese: 曹郁; born August 15, 1974) is a Chinese cinematographer best known for his work on City of Life and Death, Kekexili: Mountain Patrol and See You Tomorrow. As a cinematographer, he became famous for his three collaborations with director Lu Chuan.

Cao Yu is an ASC member and CNSC council member, as well as a distinguished professor at the Shanghai Film School of Shanghai University. He is widely recognized as China's first "IMAX resident artist" and the first Asian cinematographer to use IMAX cameras throughout an entire film.
