Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk may not be Emperor's "best" album, but certainly is their most evolved before going off the deep end with IX Equilibrium. If really ferocious but sophisticated and epic metal is your cup o' tea, give this album a listen.

May 19, 1997 · During the early writing period of this album (before Trym Torson joined), the band was rehearsing with a session drummer who went by the name of Mefisto. Also released on picture LP by Candlelight Records. The original US release on Century Black, and subsequent remastered versions, include bonus tracks: 09. In Longing Spirit 10. Opus a Satana 11.

Oct 13, 2016 · Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk is an absolutely majestic record, one that took black metal circa the mid ’90s and added in a touch of… well… sophistication, sure, but also an obvious growth as musicians as well as a nod to some trad metal sounds (which the band would explore more later).
