Henrietta Ponsonby, Countess of Bessborough (16 June 1761 – 11 November 1821), born Lady Henrietta Frances Spencer (generally called Harriet), was the wife of Frederick Ponsonby, 3rd Earl of Bessborough; the couple were the parents of Lady Caroline Lamb.
Harriet Spencer, Countess of Bessborough, had always been overshadowed by her more flamboyant sister, Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire but she was an attractive woman of wit and intelligence who married well and played an energetic part in the politics of the day.
Henrietta Frances Spencer (Harriet) later Countess of Bessborough, was born at Wimbledon in Surrey on 16 June 1761. Her father, John Spencer, first Earl Spencer, was a descendant of the first Duke of Marlborough and her mother was Margaret Georgiana Poyntz .
