Arnold Pressburger (27 August 1885 – 17 February 1951) was an Austrian Jewish film producer who produced more than 70 films between 1913 and 1951. Pressburger was born in Pressburg , Austria-Hungary (now Bratislava , Slovakia ) and died in Hamburg , Germany from a stroke.

Arnold Pressburger, a Slavic immigrant about the same age as Alexander Korda, spent many years as a producer in Europe before he arrived in Hollywood in 1941.In fact, at the Sascha Film studio in Vienna after World War I, Pressburger served as a production executive when Alexander Korda made films there as a Hungarian refugee.

After enlisting in the Army, however, Capra sold the rights to producer Arnold Pressburger. Intrigued by the story, René Clair approached Pressburger about directing the film, and the two then enlisted Dudley Nichols to help write the screenplay. Nichols and Clair decided to avoid all references to the war by setting the picture in the 1890s.
