Jan 1, 2004 · In 1979 Mowatt became the first Jamaican woman to record a solo album when Black Woman was released by Tuff Gong. She has gone on to have a remarkable solo career that has secured her place as the queen of reggae music. In 1995 she created quite a stir in Jamaica by converting from Rastafarianism to Christianity.
