The two long pieces that comprise Signaux are compelling exercises in pure electronic music, remarkably three-dimensional and spatial but with a linear narrative that carries you right through - like all Hampson's work, every sound, every progression, feels studied and deliberate.
Nov 16, 2023 · On Signaux, Hampson sets up a rich tapestry of needle-like high frequencies and subtle bass spreads, expertly woven into two side-long pieces. "Signaux One" is a two-channel mix of an eight-channel diffusion at Planétarium ECM Mendes France, Poitiers in 2012, whereas "Signaux 2" is a new composition, made specifically for this release.
Both pieces are a near twenty minutes of mutating melodies, effects and synthesizers, with Signaux 1 representing Hampson s more impulsive side - sharp tones and trickling noises develop into a thick layer of fuzzy sonics and feedback.
