David Lloyd Wolper (January 11, 1928 – August 10, 2010) was an American television and film producer, responsible for shows such as Roots, The Thorn Birds, and North and South, and the theatrically-released films Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and L.A. Confidential.

Aug 12, 2024 · The Wolper Organization was founded in 1958 by documentary film producer David L. Wolper. In 1964, his company was acquired by Metromedia, but would later break apart from the company in 1967. In 1968, the Wolper library up to that time was sold to Official Films, who was later acquired by International Creative Exchange.
Located in the Doheny Library at the University of Southern California is the David L Wolper Center. The Center contains Wolper’s 50 year collection of papers, photographs, contracts, scripts, budgets, tapes and other memorabilia available for students, researchers, publications and the public.
