Ode released rock and roll comedy, and singer/songwriter music. For the first three years of its existence, it was distributed by CBS (1967-69). In 1970, Adler arranged for A&M to distribute the label.

From January 1, 1970, when A&M began distribution, through August 31, 1973, Ode sold 29.7 million records worldwide. Ode released 16 albums; ten of them charted with eight albums in the Top 10 and seven of the eight were platinum or better. Six of the albums were #1.

It has released hundreds of Jazz, Classical, Pop, Rock, Folk, Country and Pacific albums on both it's own label and licensed labels. Sold to BMG NZ Ltd. in 1996, it was repurchased by Terence O'Neill-Joyce in 2001 for a fraction of what he was paid.
