Hilton Lee Smith (February 27, 1907 – November 18, 1983) was an American right-handed pitcher in Negro league baseball. He pitched alongside Satchel Paige for the Kansas City Monarchs and Bismarck Churchills between 1932 and 1948. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001.

Hilton Smith is sometimes referred to as the forgotten star of the Negro Leagues, a pitcher whose exceptional career is often overshadowed by longtime teammate Satchel Paige.
Something must have been in the air as the state of Texas produced eight Negro League Hall of Famers 2 including Hilton Smith, whose early local prominence as a lights-out pitcher helped to springboard him to an accomplished career in the Negro Leagues that led to his induction into Cooperstown’s shrine.

Born Feb. 27, 1907 in Giddings, Texas, Smith pitched for the Monroe Monarchs of the Negro Southern League from 1932-35 before joining Kansas City in 1937. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Smith used a variety of pitches – including a devastating fastball and knee-buckling curve – to neutralize batters.

Hilton Smith was one of the Negro Leagues top two-way stars. Hilton Smith began as a raw pitcher and hitter for the Kansas City Monarchs in 1937. Under the tutelage of Frank Duncan, and and Hall of Famers Joe Rogan and Andy Cooper, Smith blossomed into a force in the Negro American League.
