The Mothers of Invention. Van Dyke Parks (born January 3, 1943) [6] is an American musician, songwriter, arranger, and record producer who has composed various film and television soundtracks. He is best known for his 1967 album Song Cycle and for his collaborations with Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys (particularly the album Smile ).

So – I say – as far as I’m concerned this new album, Songs Cycled, is the sharpest and most enjoyable Van Dyke Parks has made since his very first, Song Cycle, from 1968. Van Dyke Parks is an arranger, according to him. He is also a songwriter, solo artist, producer, and -- clearly, obviously -- a genius. He co-wrote the mystical Beach Boys album SMiLE with Brian Wilson. His 1967 debut album Song Cycle is one of the great psychedelic classics of the era. He arranged The Jungle Book song The Bare Necessities.
