A pleasant groove laid down by Washington on various saxophones and a very good supporting cast, with Steve Gadd on drums, a young Marcus Miller on bass, Eric Gale on guitar and others, which makes this LP not your later time period, sickly smooth jazz, but jazz that, yes, is smooth in its own way, but smooth with groove and fine musicians.
