Michael W. Berns (December 1, 1942 – August 13, 2022) was an American biologist who was a professor of surgery and cell biology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), and an adjunct professor of bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego.

The founding director of the UCI Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic served on the UCI faculty for nearly half a century.
Dr. Michael W. Berns, along with Dr. Arnold O. Beckman, was the cofounder of UCI Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic. He served as Distinguished Professor of biomedical engineering, surgery and developmental and cell biology and the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Chair in Laser Biomedicine.
