Early life [ edit ] Harris was born on New Year's Eve 1906 (some sources indicate 1909) [1] in Houston, Texas , to Isaiah and Mable Harris, both of whom were former sharecroppers from Louisiana.
Theresa Harris (1906-1985) was a versatile actress who appeared in close to 90 films and TV shows, often playing maids but also singing, dancing, and acting with stars like Barbara Stanwyck and Eddie Anderson. She was one of the few black actresses who broke the stereotype of mammy/maid roles and showed dignity, grace, and talent on screen.
