  1. Mar 17, 2013 · “I’ve got cancer.” These are the words my dear friend Earl Maddox spoke in an unusually subdued phone call to me last June. It was the beginning of his final journey, ending on Sunday, March 17, 2013, when he passed away peacefully at the home he shared with his Mother, Marion Hardwick, in Augusta.

    Earl H. Maddox (26 October 1957 – 17 March 2013; age 55) was a drummer and actor who appeared as a male alien in the Star Trek: Voyager seventh season episode "Friendship One". As a background performer Maddox received no credit for this appearance and was identified by the name tag of his costume which was sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay.

    Beside work in music videos for musicians such as Depeche Mode and commercials for products like Budweiser and Red Cross PSA, Maddox was featured in The X-Files (1997), Diagnosis: Murder (2001, with Eric Pierpoint and Connie Danese), Family Law (2001, with April Grace, Michelle Horn, Christopher McDonald, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, and Damara Reilly), Just Shoot Me! (2003), The Bernie Mac Show, That 70's Show (2006, with Kurtwood Smith and Don Stark), and Memphis Beat (2010, with Alfre Woodard and Daniel Hugh Kelly).

    His film work includes supporting and background roles in Mama Flora's Family (1998), Wayward Son (1999), The Gift (2000, with Erik Cord), Evolution (2001), Monster's Ball (2001), Life Without Dick (2002, with Terri Garr, Geoffrey Blake, Holmes R. Osborne, and Ian Patrick Williams), Spider-Man (2002, starring Kirsten Dunst), Locusts (2005, with Natalia Nogulich and Mikki Val), the biopic Elvis (2005, with Eugenie Bondurant), and the war drama Faith of my Fathers (2005, with Joe Chrest and Cary-Hiroyuki).

    He also appeared in the comedy College (2008), the drama Who Do You Love (2008, with Joe Chrest), Jonathan Frakes' television sequel The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008, with Bruce Davison), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008, with Spencer Daniels), and The Yellow Wallpaper (2009).

    Later work include Jonah Hex (2010, with Joe Billingiere and Michael Papajohn), Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012, with Aaron Toney and Donna DuPlantier), Arachnoquake (2012, with Ethan Phillips), and Parker (2013, with Clifton Collins, Jr., Carlos Carrasco, Sala Baker, Charles Picerni, Jr., and Brian Oerly).

    Maddox would have played a part in Django Unchained but was unable to take the role because of his illness. He passed away of cancer at the age of 55 on 17 March 2013.
