He Jiong was born on 28 April 1974 in Yuhua District, Changsha, Hunan, China. His father, He Wei (Chinese: 何畏; pinyin: Hé Wèi), who was a professor of philosophy, ran a seafood restaurant chain. His elder brother He Hao (Chinese: 何昊; pinyin: Hé Hào) is a military personnel.
In 1998, he joined Hunan Satellite TV to host "Happy Camp" and has hosted for 20 years. In September 2014, under the arrangement of Madame Tussauds Shanghai, He Jiong’s wax figure was unveiled in the 0927 “Happy Camp” program. He is the first artist in the world to personally participate in wax painting.
