A Parisian of Belgian and French extraction, Mistinguett made her stage debut in music hall in her late teens and subsequently performed at the Eldorado for some eight years. She appeared in light comedy and musical plays and for a time was part-owner of the Moulin Rouge, where she also gave many memorable performances.
