Evelyn Brent (born Mary Elizabeth Riggs; [1] October 20, 1895 [2] [3] [4] – June 4, 1975 [5]) was an American film and stage actress. Early life. Brent was born in Tampa, Florida and known as "Betty." When she was 10 years old, her mother Eleanor ( née Warner) died, leaving her father, Arthur, to raise her alone.
Evelyn Brent was a petite, sultry leading lady of the 1920s and 30s who starred in films by Josef von Sternberg and others. She appeared in silent and talking pictures, and later became an actor's agent and a guest star on Wagon Train.

The movie career of Evelyn Brent spanned 36 years (from 1914 to 1950), a good stretch for any actress, but particularly for a trouper who adjusted to every industry change long after many of her contemporaries had fled the business. One of her best films was 1927’s “Underworld” directed by Josef Von Sternberg.
