    Can I cheat and choose two? One is King Lear at the RSC with Robert Stephens. I was quite young – probably too young – but I was completely spellbound. I remember looking at my watch at the interval and not believing that an hour and a half had passed.     I saw Jitney at London’s Old Vic and Oklahoma! at the Young Vic and really enjoyed them both. I’m also enjoying two BBC podcasts – one about Putin and one about J Edgar Hoover – as well as James Graham’s Sherwood on TV. And it is a bit of a guilty pleasure, but I really enjoyed the new Top Gunmovie, too.

    I’d love to see some kind of magic solution that allowed theatre to keep up with streaming platforms in the eyes of the acting profession. I wish it was as attractive to appear on stage as it is to appear in the next series of Stranger Things.

    I don’t see much point in hankering after particular roles because, unless you are in a very select group of actors, it just doesn’t work like that, but I would like to do some Chekhov. I’ve never really done any, so that is a goal of mine. Continues...
