Violist Ames Asbell has performed classical, tango, and popular music in over 30 countries around the world, in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to universities to clubs.
Ames is currently Associate Professor of Viola at Texas State University, where she founded the Texas State String Project in 2010 and serves as its Director. She has served on the board of the American Viola Society since 2016, and coordinated the 2021 AVS Festival.
A founding member of the Austin-based Tosca String Quartet, Ames performs and records in many musical genres. Most recently, she and the Tosca Strings accompanied rock legend David Byrne on two world tours and his album, Grown Backwards, on the prestigious Nonesuch label.
