Early Life
Carlos came out to his parents when he was seventeen. They were shocked but they hugged him and told him they loved him. Still, they never mentioned his coming out the next morning or ever since. This made Carlos feel like he was a disappointment to his parents, so he married his best friend, Iris Blake, and tried to make his relationship with her work. Eventually they ended up leading separate lives, but never divorced.

Carlos is first seen on the show, arresting his sister-in-law, Michelle, for violating the restraining order Dustin (her sister's ex boyfriend) has against her. Carlos had always been helping her to find her sister (and his estranged wife) Iris, who went missing three years ago.
