Martin Benjamin Benson was an English character actor in theater, film, and television. He was involved in both British and Hollywood projects and is best known for his role as the Prime Minister (Kralaholme) in the original London production of "The King and I," which he later reprised in the Academy Award-winning film adaptation of the play.
Tall, grim-faced British actor Martin Benson worked concurrently on stage and in films throughout the late 1940s. He then apperared in shows such as The Vise, Douglas Fairbanks Presents, Passage Home, Doctor At A Sea and perhaps his most familiar role to American audiences, was his portrayal of the dour Kralahome in The King and I (1956).
A British character actor, Benson was in demand for all kinds of diverse and exotic characters. These include the vizier Kralahome in The King & I (1956), Mordekai in Exodus (1960), Ramos in Cleopatra (1963), doomed gangster Solo in Goldfinger (1964) and Maurice in A Shot In The Dark (1964).
