After high school, Alaimo attended Marquette University and was a member of the Marquette University Players and the Milwaukee Repertory Theater during the 1960s. Later, he would become a member of various theatre companies in New York and touring theater companies before eventually taking the leap to move to Los Angeles in 1973.
