The trail starts off the dirt road on the west side of Florence Lake and loosely follows the shoreline at a higher elevation. As you make your way around the lake, beautiful vistas abound, including good views of the Florence Lake Dam.
Jackass Meadow Campground is along the upper San Joaquin River just below Florence Lake in the Sierra National Forest. The campground is about a 3-hour drive east of Fresno, including a narrow and winding section of road over Kaiser Pass. The area is not recommended for large RVs or trailers.
