The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 ( Russian: Микоян-Гуревич МиГ-15; USAF/DoD designation: Type 14; NATO reporting name: Fagot) is a jet fighter aircraft developed by Mikoyan-Gurevich for the Soviet Union. The MiG-15 was one of the first successful jet fighters to incorporate swept wings to achieve high transonic speeds.

May 13, 2024 · MiG-15, single-seat, single-engine Soviet jet fighter, built by the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau and first flown in 1947. It was used extensively in combat during the Korean War (1950–53). The MiG-15 was the first “all-new” Soviet jet aircraft, one whose design did not simply add a jet engine.

The MiG-15 featured the first production swept wing, pressurized cockpit, and ejection seat on a Soviet aircraft. Although Mikoyan and Gurevich were aware of German turbojet and swept-wing work, this design was wholly Russian, except for the engine. This MiG-15bis is a Chinese Ji-2 modification. The Smithsonian acquired it in 1985.
The MiG-15bis used a more powerful engine and hydraulically boosted ailerons. During the Korean War, both versions of the MiG-15 operated extensively against United Nations forces. Apr 9, 2021 · On April 12, 1951, the MiG-15, a swept-wing jet with cannons, shot down three B-29 Superfortresses and damaged seven more in a surprise attack. The air war over Korea changed as the Allies scrambled to counter the superior Soviet aircraft.
