The Mercer Williams House is easily one of the most recognizable homes in Savannah! | ©Erin Clarkson. The property includes a rather large carriage house and a beautiful private courtyard. It was also the “scene of the crime” for one of Savannah’s most notorious shootings.
The Mercer-Williams House was designed by New York architect John S. Norris for General Hugh W. Mercer, great-grandfather of celebrated songwriter Johnny Mercer. Construction began in 1860 and was subsequently interrupted by the Civil War.
Museum tickets and entry are located behind the main house at 430 Whitaker Street. Our 35 minute guided tours are first come, first serve only and run approximately every 20-40 minutes. Parking is located on the street and is metered.
