University of California Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) was established in 1878. Our school was created as the first law school of the UC system with one guiding principle: to place students close to where they would practice the law. 150 years ago, it would have been the courts. Now, the practice of law takes place beyond the courts.
Applicant Eligibility. Law School Admission Council’s Credential Assembly Service (CAS. Application Checklist. Completed Application submitted via LSAC. Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and/or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score from a test administered between October 2018 and June 2024.
The law school is now known as University of California College of the Law, San Francisco or UC Law SF for short, after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1936, which revised the California Education Code, striking the name “Hastings” from the school.
Our program offers the best of UC Law SF – a small, supportive LL.M. program with tailored academic advising, while being fully integrated into our J.D. program with access to over 175 courses as well as experiential clinics, pro bono opportunities, and over 70 student organizations.
