Noel Gay (15 July 1898 – 4 March 1954) was born Reginald Moxon Armitage. He also used the name Stanley Hill professionally. [2] He was a successful British composer of popular music of the 1930s and 1940s whose output comprised 45 songs as well as the music for 28 films and 26 London shows.
History. The Noel Gay Organisation was founded in 1938, when the composer Noel Gay (born Reginald Armitage, 1898) started a music publishing company to publish his show songs and light music.
His music dominated the London stage and the hit parade for the next twenty five years; he is, I believe, the only composer apart from Andrew Lloyd Webber to have four hit shows running in the West End simultaneously; however Noel Gay also had two films showing in cinemas at the same time.
