Charles Ainslie Crichton (6 August 1910 – 14 September 1999) was an English film director and editor. Born in Wallasey , Cheshire , he became best known for directing many comedies produced at Ealing Studios and had a 40-year career editing and directing many films and television programmes. [5]
At the request of star John Cleese, Crichton agreed to direct Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline in the offbeat comedy A Fish Called Wanda (1988), which turned out to be a huge international hit. It was his biggest success, and also his last film. He died in London at 1999, at age 89.

Director Charles Crichton would make a big comeback 37 years later, at age 77, with the hit comedy A FISH CALLED WANDA, starring John Cleese, Kevin Kline, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
