Crystal Lake, the largest lake of this name in Michigan, is located near Lake Michigan in Benzie County about 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Traverse City and about 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Frankfort at 44°39′N 86°09′W.
Crystal Lake has been a favorite vacation spot for more than a century. When you see it, you'll understand why. It is one of the deepest and largest lakes in Michigan and offers excellent skiing, and sailing. The water is very clear and you can usually see the bottom at 12 or more feet.

Crystal Lake is one of the prettiest lakes in Michigan. You can boat, water ski, fish or kayak. The water is so clear you can see down to the bottom in the shallow areas. Water temperature tends to be cold to those who are used to the South. Hanging out at the outlet to the Betsie river is fun.
Crystal Lake Township is very rich in history. Its geographical borders were once much more encompassing than at present. For example, at one time our borders included Frankfort.
This deep lake has exceptional water clarity and 21 miles of shoreline with some of the highest shoreline property values in Northern Michigan. A small segment of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore lies in the Crystal Lake Watershed.
In Benzie County, you can hike to the top of high bluffs and enjoy expansive views of the northwoods and at the end of the day find a vista to watch the sun set over Lake Michigan. Explore the rivers, trails, arts, fairways, lakes shops and beaches of Benzie County.
