Hole in the Rock is a narrow and steep crevice in the western rim of Glen Canyon, in southern Utah in the western United States. Together with another canyon on the eastern side of the Colorado River, it provided a route through what would otherwise be a large area of impassable terrain.

[1] Hole-in-the-Rock is a series of openings ( tafoni) eroded in a small hill composed of bare red arkosic conglomeritic sandstone.
The park is known for its rock formations and short hiking / running trails. The main attraction, the Hole in the Rock, at the top of the short trail, is a great place to take pictures as it is one of the highest points in the area and it offers great views of the rest of the park.

Interestingly, this red sandstone was formed from 6-15 MILLION years ago and the formation of the rock’s openings were caused by erosion. Today, the rock still stands as it was formed and as a nice place to trek up to see a view of the city of Phoenix.
