Hartz Mountains National Park is located in the south of Tasmania, Australia. It is one of 19 Tasmanian National Parks, and in 1989 it was included in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, in recognition of its natural and cultural values. The Hartz Mountains were named after the Harz mountain range in Germany.
Sep 28, 2022 · Hartz Mountains National Park is nestled between Southwest National Park and the verdant hills of Huon Valley, covering 71.4 ㎢ of southern Tasmania’s wild glacially carved landscape. The park is part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area and is located only 90 minutes south of Hobart.
At the edge of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, Hartz Mountains National Park is one of Tasmania’s most accessible alpine areas. Its high peaks simultaneously provide grandstand views into the mountainous Southwest wilderness and comforting looks down into the Huon Valley.

People come to Hartz Mountains National Park for the hiking. Glaciers have cut high elevation lakes into the plateau formed by this dolerite mountain range. Waterfalls cascade off the range and it's all to be explored on foot. There are three recommended short walks of under an hour in the park.
