Gloucester, MA 01930 At the entrance to Gloucester Harbor, sits a spectacular 2,250’ granite jetty, known as DogBar Breakwater, or just the Breakwater. Visitors can enjoy the walk to the end, with lovely views of Gloucester Harbor on one side and the open ocean (and the Boston skyline) on the other.
The lighthouse was built to guide mariners into busy Gloucester Harbor safely, and was rebuilt two more times at its current location. The 2,200 foot breakwater was built in the 1890’s and is a main attraction for visitors to the lighthouse to observe the lighthouse from the water.
