   What to see at Mineola National Park?

   • Our first stop was the Mineola Nature Preserve, which is an awesome destination for nature lovers, who don't mind some hiking. The preserve is quite large, lots of trails, and we saw longhorn cattle, a buffalo, whitetail deer, blue herons, turtles, a copperhead, butterflies, and one VERY large skunk.

   Where is Mineola Texas?

   • It lies at the junction of U.S. highways 69 and 80, eighty miles east of Dallas in southwestern Wood County. The population was 4,550 at the 2000 census. William Jesse McDonald, one of the four best known captains of the Texas Rangers, was a storekeeper and then Wood County deputy sheriff in Mineola in the late 19th century.
