A gradual ascending trail leads to an ancient coastal bluff sand dune. Visitors are asked to stay on the trail in an effort to help preserve this unique sand accumulation.
Unwind and watch thrillseekers rock climb and repel off the cliffs that tower over the beach. Hit the trails and make your way up yourself. The cliffs offer spectacular 360-degree views and are a great place to catch a glimpse of grey whales on their migration between December and April.

Big Dume Beach (a.k.a. Dume Cove Beach) is the main beach at Point Dume State Beach in Malibu. Dume Cove’s crescent-shaped beach faces southeast from the east side of Point Dume. Access to the beach is via a trail across a small bluff-top natural preserve and then down a long steep staircase.
Point Dume State Beach is 63 acres in size, and is one of the last and finest examples of coastal bluff scrub in Southern California. In 1992, a 34-acre parcel of Point Dume was designated a State Natural Preserve, one of the highest levels of protection afforded by law.
