Starting at the end of Front street near the footbridge in Belfast, the city has converted a rail line to a nice walking and biking path that borders the Passagassawakeag river. It is 2.3 miles one way, with a very slight grade upward, and ends at City Point near the Belfast and Moosehead Lake railroad station.

The Belfast Rail Trail (also known as the Passagassawakeag or “Passy” Rail Trail) is a multi-use 2.3-mile path that lies right next to the Passagassawakeag River. As its name suggests, this trail utilizes the bed of a former railroad that was constructed in 1870.

May 15, 2018 · Trail Mileage: 3.3 miles one way (including Harbor Trail and bridge) Pets: yes. Difficulty: easy. Sights: Passagassawakeag River, harbor, Belfast. I like the long name of this shortish but delightful river path. This roughly 3-mile trail is very wheelchair/stroller accessible, with a smooth covering of fine stone dust.
