May 5, 2021 · Michael Wadleigh’s “Wolfen” was one of three major werewolf films of 1981 (the others are the far more celebrated “The Howling” and “An American Werewolf in London”) and certainly the most unusual. The first shot is of the New York City skyline, with the World Trade Center front and center.

User Reviews. The vicious, bloody homicide of a prominent businessman, his wife, and bodyguard in New York's Battery Park brings shaggy detective Dewey Wilson out to investigate. The three victims were partially dismembered, and forensics finds non-human evidence on the bodies and body parts.

Unlike many werewolf films, Wolfen goes beyond the normal hack and slash and chooses instead to delve deep into issues like power, mysticism, and ecological welfare.
