Cruising is a 1980 crime thriller film written and directed by William Friedkin, and starring Al Pacino, Paul Sorvino and Karen Allen. It is loosely based on the novel of the same name by The New York Times reporter Gerald Walker about a serial killer targeting gay men, particularly those men associated with the leather scene in the late 1970s.
A string of sadistic murders terrorises the regulars of the neighbourhood's underground S&M clubs. As a result, lured by the promise of rapid promotion, novice patrolman Steve Burns unwisely enters the shady world of an unspoken subculture. But some doors are best left closed.
