At an exclusive prep school for boys, headmistress Claire Elliott (Joan Hackett) is at her wit's end. Her husband, Michael (Sam Waterston), regularly mistreats her, refuses a divorce and is rather openly conducting an affair with an attractive teacher named Vicky (Tuesday Weld).
