Something can be both Awaiting Review and Pending Review but once something is in the process of being reviewed it is no longer Awaiting Review but it is still Pending Review. Share.

With a typical ScholarOne configuration, "Awaiting Reviewer Scores" means that it is actually out with (at least some) reviewers, while "Under Review" would instead mean the previous stage, where it is being considered by the handling editor (s) and might still be rejected without review.
Feb 27, 2021 · Answer: Awaiting Reviewer Scores means that your paper is being peer reviewed. As you may know, peer review can take a while, as peer reviewers do this along with their other work. So, one can’t really put a timeline to it. Also, one reviewer may send their comments on time or earlier, and the other (s) may take a while to get back.

Oct 9, 2018 · 1. A review invitation has been sent out but the reviewer has not yet accepted it. 2. The reviewer has accepted the invitation and the editor is waiting to receive reviewer comments. Since it has been about a month since the status “Awaiting a reviewer reply” has been put up, the second option seems more likely.
