NORTHERN BORDERS is my personal favorite of my stories set in "Kingdom County." Along with A STRANGER IN THE KINGDOM, it's probably the most autobiographical of my novels. It tells the story of young Austen Kittredge, who grows up on his grandparents' farm in northern Vermont in the 1940s and '50s.
