The Captain's Doll explores the complex relationship between a German countess and a married Scottish soldier in occupied Germany, while in The Ladybird a wounded prisoner of war has a disturbing influence on the Englishwoman who visits him in hospital.
It's about a doll maker who falls in love for a married man. She makes a doll that looks exactly like him. She is fairly sure that he doesn't love her and she really can't figure him out.
