Ho Po-Wing and Lai Yiu-Fai are a gay couple from Hong Kong with a tumultuous relationship marked by frequent separations and reconciliations. They visit Argentina together but break up after they become lost while traveling to visit the Iguazu Falls.

Happy Together was also featured in the opening of the 2015 Minions movie, where it plays alongside the evolutions of the Minions. The song was also heavily featured in the trailer for Pokémon Detective Pikachu, released in 2019.
