Movie fans can always tell when a movie has a huge budget, but sometimes, low-budget movies are so well-done we would never imagine they cost so much less than their peers. That's exactly the case for these movies below.

    • 'The Green Knight' — David Lowery — $15 Million. David Lowery has produced a very eclectic body of work, directing everything from the deep, thought-provoking A Ghost Story to the fun, fast-paced, family-friendly Pete's Dragon.
    • 'Nobody' — Ilya Naishuller — $16 Million. Best known for his role as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and its spinoff show Better Caul Saul, fans were extremely intrigued when it was announced that Bod Odenkirk would be fronting the brutal action film Nobody.

    • The Blair Witch Project. Directors: Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez. The Blair Witch Project introduced audiences to a new kind of horror movie and set the aesthetic for many that followed.
    • Juno. Director: Jason Reitman. For a small indie film that was made on just a $7.5 million budget, Juno really made a significant impact. The film had such a low budget that Jennifer Garner took a pay cut to keep the costs down.

    • Primer (2004) Budget: $7000. ‘Primer’ is a super-weird, super-crazy film about garage inventions and time travel. Shane Carruth’s puzzling debut goes about its business assuming that audience is as intelligent as the inventors in the film.
    • Mean Streets (1973) Budget: $500,000. Martin Scorsese’s ferocious second film provides a nice counterpoint to Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece. ‘ The Godfather’ was about the royalty of the underworld crime syndicate, ‘Mean Streets’ is about its commoners.
    • Pi ($135,000) The directorial debut of Daren Aronofsky, Pi is a psychological thriller that has earned considerable renown and is considered a classic in the genre.
    • Another Earth ($100,000) Released in 2011, Another Earth is a sci-fi movie that dabbles with the possibility of a parallel Earth appearing in our very sky.
    • Tangerine ($100,000) The filmmakers behind the 2015 movie Tangerine took an unusual approach to the low-budget barrier by shooting the entirety of it with three iPhone 5S cameras.
