College student David Anderson (Paul Nicholas) travels to England to attend his roommate's wedding to Lady Anne (Susan Brooks), but finds himself immediately drawn to her. However, when he is forced to stand in for his friend during the rehearsal, a befuddled pastor (Ralph Richardson) makes a mistake and legally marries them to each other. The couple get to know each other during a week in the countryside, and discover their mutual romantic feelings.
